The Back Story of Love Leah
Love Leah Official Logo |
It was all a dream. A dream of making something and sharing learnings with other people and being in a community of like-minded humans.
I am Leah and I am actually in my twenties now and I'm an ambivert. (Mixture of Extrovert and An introvert in case you might not know lol). I always love Calligraphy and hand-lettering since College Days and so far, I have quite a collection of pens at home. Ever since college, I fell in love with stationery and crafts. Every day I will go to the nearest Bookstore and look at their new pens. I will be so excited when they restocked or there's a new brand of pen on the shelf.
Love Leah was originally from "Love by Leah". I decided to make it Love Leah for the reason of this quotation that I just got somewhere, " Anything that is handmade is made out of love." So I began dreaming about making my own sticker designs and handmade journals.
The Idea of Love Leah came from |
I got so into making notebooks when I watched Sea Lemon's tutorial on how to make notebooks with Kettle-Stitch binding and that was the first stitch binding I learned from her channel. So, the next day, my partner and I bought some papers, threads and needles to try it out.
I also remember the time wherein it was a struggle to find the right thread and remembered that I cried my heart out when the thread snapped and was already on my third signature. I'm so sad that day but he promised me that we will look around town to get the right thread.
The next day, we looked around town and we came across a lot of stores that sell thread but most of them don't know the proper thread for bookbinding, I guess it wasn't common here.
But then again, we were able to buy at least 3 kinds of thread that we thought will do and are durable, and of the three, The brand "Dandy" was the best one.
So I got excited and made a lot of books. The first three I ever did were not that perfect, but, like everything, it's trial and error.
That never stopped me.
As I continue to learn, my points of interest started to grow to many things. I realized that I like making designs and converting them to stickers and so I found some shops here in our place where we live wherein I can sell some products.
I bought sticker papers that I can experiment with and decided to make a bunch of copies and cut them, individually.
Because, why not? I actually like cutting things because it somehow becomes therapeutic. It became a form of meditation for me, I remember when I was cutting all my Leah Mood Beans, I was binge-watching "What We Do In the Shadows" while cutting. It is so satisfying to work that way. Stress-free and therapeutic. Nothing else in the mind but making sure that I cut it right.
I started there.
I finally had an idea of what I would like my Art Style to be. I find that not being on the same bandwagons all the time will allow me to find and to explore the other universes out there.
My babies, the journals that I made are an outlet for EXPERIMENTING and EXPERIENCE. My Handmade journals are made for making something different. If you are the kind of person that doesn't like to mess up on your precious journal, you can grab this handmade journal and make it as your ground for experimenting and developing your art style.
I would like you to see that my products are made to allow you to make your mistakes and learn from them. For me, it is so essential that we prioritize the word LEARNING because I certainly believe that learning without application is nothing. Basically, if you happen to finish a journal with your "experiment" art. You will have an archive of something to look back to when the time comes that you need inspiration. The love for the pursuit of knowledge inspires me to take this journey and share it as soon as possible with other like-minded earthlings like me.
A little note for everyone. |
I love Adventure, and I love taking risks. Not that I'm not afraid of failing but it's better to try than not at all. Even if you fail, at least you have learned.
Learning to Move on and go ahead with life is the Mantra of my Brand.
I personally encourage you to make mistakes, it's not a sin. It's a small step towards your goal. Because if you don't, where's the room for knowledge then?
Love Leah, for me, is not just a name, a shop, or an identity. Love Leah is an experience, a friend, and a dream. Anything else is just the technical side of it. For me, every journal I make, stickers I designed, every package I pack are done with every heartbeat.
Because Love Leah is Love by Leah.
